Dear Westosha Central Families,
As previously communicated, Westosha Central has been working on a “Return to Central” plan aimed at reopening our school this fall. We have met with many people including area school districts, local health professionals, school board members, Wisconsin Department of Instruction staff, and Central staff members to gain insights and information needed to create a plan that best meets the needs of our community and students. We surveyed parents in June, discussed options with staff, and planned for all potential scenarios. As many of you have expressed, these are not easy decisions, and we thank you for your understanding and acknowledgement of the work being done to get ready for the fall.
During our examinations of all options for reopening Westosha Central High School this fall, our primary goal is, and continues to be, focused on the safety of our staff and students. While we cannot remove every risk, we believe that we have developed a plan that minimizes these risks for all stakeholders. Four guiding principles led to our plan; more information about each is located in the “Return to Central Plan”.
Safety of staff and students
Attending to and caring for the social-emotional and mental health needs of students and staff
Providing a comprehensive instructional model for students and staff
Creating flexibility in the plan in the event that changes are needed throughout the year
Click here for a copy of the “Return to Central Plan”. The plan includes many of the safety precautions and procedures that are being put in place, but know that we are continuing to review and revamp as needed. Instructionally, we are providing two options for our students.
Face-to-face instruction for all students four days a week and
one day of virtual instruction on Wednesdays
Full virtual instruction
A survey to all parents will be sent on Friday, July 31 regarding these two options. To ensure that we are ready for September 1, parents must complete the survey by August 6. The survey will be sent to you by Mr. Dale Van Keuren, Principal.
I cannot stress enough that this plan will continue to evolve as new information comes to light each and every day. Our goal is to have a flexible and responsive solution that moves fluidly on the spectrum from least restrictive to most restrictive as we continue to learn and grow in our understanding of the pandemic.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties of the upcoming school year, Westosha Central is committed to making this our best year yet. Central’s dedicated and exceptional staff, along with our amazing students and supportive parents, will make this year successful. As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to fulfilling our mission to help every student feel supported and to promote academic gains and success.
Your Partners in Education,
John Gendron Dale Van Keuren
