Message from Our Reading Specialist

During the summer, students may tend to slide backwards a little in their academic skills, but there are simple ways that parents can help prevent that.

One of these is by reading with your children, even young adults in high school.  Involve your teenagers in regular discussion about the news and important topics happening at the local, state and/or national levels.  Encourage them to read articles you have found or to find some of their own to share back with you, including on social media feeds that they already subscribe to.

By making conversation about what we read part of our daily family lives, we can build closer relationships with our teenage children as well as sneak a little literacy homework in without making it seem like work.  Happy reading!

Ms. Hillman
