We were recently awarded $2,500 through the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin! We are using these funds to help plant a 2,000 sq foot pollinator patch. We are currently in phase one, prepping the ground to plant native plants/ wildflowers in late May.
This phase will kill off the grass as it has shallow root structures, and when we plant our natives, with deeper root structures, to help keep soil in place and retain/filter water from the pond before it flows into Hooker Lake. We are working with the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network for this project, and our Biology/ Honors Biology classes helped place all the cardboard!
